The only teacher I’ve ever truly known is Mrs. Mathews, the head of
Central
Bucks East High School’s art department. It’s not knowing her on
a personal level, but more so knowing her passion for the arts and seeing the
joy she gets in teaching others. She once told me of the struggle and hardships
she endured after high school. She shared with me that she never learned the
basic skills needed for college, and once she started her freshman year of college
she found that she was in trouble. Through her own personal struggle she decided
to give to others what she had never had. Mrs. Mathews has given me knowledge
confidence and experience. Not only has she given me knowledge of all aspects
of art, but I feel she has also passed down her passion for learning and teaching.
She’s gone out of her way, and enhanced the curriculum to make sure that
her students have learned enough to impress any professor. Mrs. Mathews is unquestionably
one of the most influential teachers I have ever met.

Hey Mrs. Mathews!
I just wanted to drop u a line and let you know that college is great! I
love it here at Tyler. My classes are going well and my projects are amazing!
I was talking with Erin and she mentioned she was keeping in touch with you,
so I got your e-mail address from her. How are things at East? We miss you
a lot and we r sooooo lucky we learned all the important stuff from you.
We lead the class when it comes to knowing how to use materials and specific
art terms.
Colleen Matthews – class of 2000
I want to take this moment to really say thank you to all the professors,
and teachers, and co-ops I had along the way. I think about each of you daily,
and the things you passed on to me, that hopefully I can now pass on to some
other folks (let me say, acquiring a southern way of speaking is far far
to easy). I try to stay in touch with my yankee roots. But, Thank you.
